Youth Leadership

By taking lead roles in campaigning and community engagement young people can become effective advocates for their communities. Creating opportunities for young people to develop and build leadership skills to practice within the community is important if young people are to be given a voice in the development of their neighbourhoods and London’s wider urban landscape.

My City Too’s focus has been on non-traditionally practiced engagement, developing creative methods of enhancing leadership that young people themselves can actively engage with.

  • Youth-led community engagement widens the discussion about what people want through bridging generational divides and bringing consultation to unexpected places.
  • Peer-to-peer learning increases confidence of young leaders and encourages discussion between young people about what they feel their community needs.
  • Public speaking develops communication skills and demonstrates a capacity to participate in the debate of complex built environment issues.
