My City Too has used film in a number of projects. Both to document our activities and as central part of the projects themselves, we feel it is a good medium to encourage young people with different skill sets to voice their opinions and forces people to have to formulate and consider their ideas in a very immediate way. The use of film can ensure ideas and opinions are considered, consolidated and then disseminated easily. The use of film enables those young people less engaged with formal education and employment, who are often a much marginalised group within society, a channel for their energy, opinions and the opportunity to get their voices heard.
Young people respond very well to multimedia approaches as these can seem more relevant in an era of social media and networking and it also gives young people the opportunity to develop skills they would necessarily have the chance to explore otherwise.
